This week I finally broke down a took Grady up to Reno. I had some shopping to do. We were going to go to the Discovery Museum up there, but I'm glad I checked beforehand because they're closed on Mondays. Instead Grady decided he just wanted to play at the mall play area.
So our day started out at the mall, where Grady sat in a boat sailing around. He caught some fish in his hands and brought them over to me to eat. He got irritated when there were other kids that got into the boat because he didn't want to play on any of the other toys. When we walked out of the play area, the Easter Bunny was greeting kids and Grady felt very self-conscious to see him wave. He didn't want to get close to him and when Grady turned to walk away he almost ran into some chairs because he was so flustered.
Then Grady thought it was the coolest thing that the mall actually had food, so he picked out some chicken and noodles for lunch. Noodles again had lettuce in them so he didn't eat much of that, but he really liked the chicken.
Once we got done with our shopping, the weather was so nice that Grady was playing outside. He rode his bike with training wheels for a while then decided it was time to rearrange some outdoor furniture. With a pose thrown in for good measure.
After he was done with that, he decided to try his bike without training wheels. He started getting the hang of it - he could get both feet on the pedals and get a half pedal stroke in. But he'd get so frustrated that he couldn't just do it that he was screaming and banging his fist on his bike. He kept working on it in that frustrated way until we had to get Peter from the bus.
When we got home with Peter, Grady asked for his training wheels to be put back on for now. He just loves the feeling of flying around on his bike while he pedals. It'll be a little longer before he takes the time to get the balance right on the bike without training wheels. But Grady is definitely loving the nice weather.
