In a stroke of coincidence, I saw that Peter Pan was being performed by a ballet troupe in Reno this weekend. I told Peter about it and he begged me a lot to take him. Eventually Grady decided that he was up for seeing it to, so we got tickets for all four of us and made Peter's birthday weekend one extra long celebration.
We got up to Reno early enough for bathroom breaks and a snack before the show started (Peanut M&Ms for Grady and Skittles for Peter). We were way in the back, but it seemed like both of the boys were able to see just fine. No one covered their ears for any of it and both of the boys were pretty good with the "no talking" rule. They both had a couple things to say/ask, but they were very quiet and were ok when I refused to answer their questions until after the show.
The noisiest thing from our group was when Peter did turn to ask me a question, he ended up dumping his bag of skittles and we heard them ping all over the floor. Probably about 25-30 of them.
The boys both decided they really liked it. Peter said if he had to choose between the movie or the ballet, he'd choose the movie but he really liked both. Grady said he'd choose the ballet. When asked if they want to go to another show like that sometime, it was a pretty resounding "yes" all around. But when asked if we should try to sit closer next time, Peter said where we were was fine with him, but Grady wants to sit closer.
Now I have to keep an eye out for some more good theater productions to take the boys to. They both seem to be enjoying seeing them. Peter says he doesn't think he'd ever want to be in a play, but maybe he'd like to help build the sets.
