Colors and Spies

Grady's got a bit of a cold this weekend and it's been gloomy and rainy today, so we all just stayed home relaxing. For the boys, Saturday mornings have meant watching one or two kids shows. They've figured out how to turn on the air TV and find the kids stuff on PBS or some other channel.

After some TV, the boys built with LEGOs a bit. Peter's had a friend at school telling him about this show called "Spy vs. Spy". He says it's on Cartoon Network (which we don't get, so he'll probably never see it). He has all these wild stories about what happens... "And then, there's this plane and they drop bombs on people and brains explode..." On and on and on. I had to stop him and ask if he actually saw something like this or if he's just getting it from his friend, he's just that detailed in the retelling.

Anyway, supposedly there's a black spy and a white spy. So Peter draws mini comics with the spies and they've moved on to making LEGO figures into the spies. Peter built two a couple days ago and today was Grady's turn. Grady made a LEGO figure with a triangle head and a little chinese bonnet hat. Also, he's holding a blaster gun and a walkie-talkie. The guy was made with red pieces and green pieces and some gray.

Then Grady tells me: "This is the black spy."
Me: "Made out of green and red?"
Grady: "ummm..... yeah.... "

When we sat down to eat breakfast, the spy made it to the table too. The boys have so much trouble staying in their seats. I forget why Grady got up, but when he came back to the table, he stood next to his spy, arms at his side, very stiff "attention" posture, staring at the middle distance ceiling, saying "roger, roger" over and over again. His gaze ended up slightly up and behind where Boris was sitting, so Boris is turning around looking at the ceiling to figure out what's going on. He couldn't at all figure out why Grady was saying Roger. After I calmed down from laughing so hard, I was able to explain and Boris looked at the spy to say "wow, that's quite a big communication device".

And that's pretty much how the day went. The boys found all kinds of things to play with. They strung their rubber band bracelets all together and saw how long they were. They went outside with umbrellas and explored the yard (finding lots of very special rocks that must be treasured). Grady filled up his treasure box with random things and then counted them all (75). Boris also has the boys join him for a weekly adventure watching one episode of the original Star Trek.

Also, there has been hot chocolate making. And not just one piddly cup of hot chocolate, no sir. We get the big 4-cup bowl for something as decadent as hot chocolate.
